A family battles unspeakable evil within a magnificent and forbidding old hotel, in "Stephen King's The Shining," a three-part "ABC Miniseries" from America's unparalleled master of horror, airing SUNDAY, APRIL 27, MONDAY, APRIL 28 and THURSDAY, MAY 1 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET, all three nights), on the ABC Television Network.
Rebecca De Mornay and Steven Weber ("Wings") star.
Stephen King wrote the script for the miniseries, based on his critically-acclaimed novel, and served as executive producer on the film, which he says he hopes will be "the scariest thing that's ever been on American television."
Welcome to the Overlook Hotel, a mysterious old resort nestled in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. Jack Torrance (Weber), the hotel's new winter caretaker, has come to The Overlook with his wife, Wendy (De Mornay), and their young son, Danny (Courtland Mead). Once the snows hit, the family will be left alone in the hotel, cut off from the outside world. As a recovering alcoholic with an unstable and violent past, Jack hopes this time alone will give his family time to heal. But little Danny knows better.
Danny knows that behind every door of the Overlook's 110 empty rooms lies a chamber of horror, where ghoulish guests are dead, but not departed. Where the cryptic message "redrum" appears and reappears as if by magic, written in blood. He knows because his innocent mind holds an incredible psychic power "the shining" a power that mirrors the nightmarish secrets of the Overlook's past, and can foresee the hotel's terrifying future.
The evil phantoms who haunt The Overlook want desperately to possess Danny's power. But the hotel needs a conduit to get to Danny. Someone whose mental state is so fragile that he could be manipulated to carry out its unspeakable mission. Someone Danny trusts. Someone like . . . Jack.
THE CAST: Rebecca De Mornay as Wendy Torrance, Steven Weber as Jack Torrance, Melvin Van Peebles as Halloran, Wil Horneff as Tony, Elliott Gould as Ullman, John Durbin as Derwent, Stanley Anderson as Grady, Pat Hingle as Watson and Courtland Mead as Danny Torrance.
