Cable Industry Taps Ruder Finn for Signal
Theft Campaign

Los Angeles (May 12, 1997) -- Ruder Finn has been selected to spearhead public relations for the Pay-Per-View Anti-Theft Task Force, an unprecedented industry effort to stop pay-per-view and cable theft. The PPV Anti-Theft Task Force is a non-profit organization comprised of more than 50 companies representing all segments of the PPV industry committed to stopping signal piracy.

The Task Force's public relations chair, Hilda Chazanovitz, noted, "We believe Ruder Finn will provide the Task Force with national reach, having multiple agency resources in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington and New York offices."

Initially, Ruder Finn will work with the Task Force on a consumer education program, working with media and consumer publications as well as supporting the consumer advertising campaign.

"We've been given a great opportunity by the Task Force to work with all of the industry leaders to heighten consumer awareness about the penalties for PPV theft and to develop strategies to halt "black box" advertisements," said Karen Berk, managing director of Ruder Finn's Los Angeles office. "Our staff in Los Angeles and New York has extensive cable television and PPV experience and will be headed by Senior Vice President Jackie Lapin on the West Coast," she added.

Ruder Finn has been a leading communications, counseling and service agency for nearly 50 years. With offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Raleigh, N.C., Washington, D.C., Beijing, Hong Kong, London and Paris, and affiliates worldwide, the agency serves the global and local communications needs of over 200 corporations and non-profit organizations.
