John Alvarez (Greg Giraldo) may be a Harvard-trained attorney, but he's not like
the other lawyers at the powerful Manhattan law firm where he works. And it's
not just the beard, the earring or the constant irreverence that makes him
different. Surrounded by colleagues who don't know what to make of a Hispanic
lawyer who's not "Hispanic" enough to be easily categorized, John still has one
especially sympathetic peer at the law firm: Nancy Slate (Megyn Price), a young
attorney from the Upper East Side. Although their outlook on life differs, they
fall in love and secretly move in together to avoid repercussions from John's
old-fashioned father, Luis (Gregory Sierra), and from their firm, which frowns on
